When I was 6 years old, I had broken this bowl my parents really liked. I felt awful, and was afraid I was going to get in trouble, so what did I do when my parents walked in? I pointed to my little sister and whined, "she diiiiiid it!!" Unfortunately, my two year old sister (who was still learning to walk) was sitting half way across the room, while I was residing directly next to the crime scene.
My parents weren't that mad, but they saw a life lesson opportunity. My Mom took me aside and told me a story about when she messed up a while ago. She said, "I screwed up really bad at this job I had just gotten, and I tried to push the blame onto someone else. It wasn't fully my fault but it was more my fault then I was letting on. My boss came down to talk to me and taught me the most vital life lesson I have ever received. She said to me 'Anna, you need to take responsibility for your faults. You will never get anywhere if you're pushing responsibility onto others.'"
Everyone messes up. Everyone makes mistakes. But that doesn't matter. What does matter is how you deal with the problem you made. Take responsibilities for your own actions. Pushing blame onto someone else makes you look irresponsible, and can even burn bridges.
